1966 　 Department of Eastern Language was established.

1985　  Department of Eastern Language was renamed as Department of Japanese.

1997      Undergraduate night course stopped accepting students.

2001      Advanced education program (Undergraduate night program) was established.

2006      Master program was established.

2007      Department of Applied Japanese, TKU merged into Department of Japanese. Two-

year in-service undergraduate program was established.

2008      JLPT N1 started to be compulsory for graduation. This was applicable for those

who joined the undergraduate program from this academic year onwards.

2011      Master in-service program was established.

2017      Two-year in-service undergraduate program stopped accepting students.

2021      Master in-service program stopped accepting students.
 

    Daytime and night undergraduate programs and a master program are currently available at the department. All classes are given at Tamsui campus.
